Delaware International Speedway Looks forward to 2025
Delmar, DE -
With the conclusion of the 2024 racing season, SDM Promotions is shifting its focus to the 2025 season. The previous year's operational experiences have yielded important lessons, with several changes implemented to positive effect. These changes included the establishment of a more consistent schedule, revisions to the nightly order to facilitate timely show completion, and notable car count increases. These accomplishments have fostered confidence in the approach to the forthcoming 2025 racing season.
Mark Cathell, co-owner of SDM Promotions, LLC, stated that returning to Saturday nights was a decision based on feedback from our race teams and fans, indicating this was their preference. Our primary objective for 2024 was to revert to our roots and revitalize local racing in Delaware. The outcome we observed suggests that we are on the correct path.
The inaugural event of our season, taking place on Saturday, April 19, will feature the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series, in addition to Millman Napa Auto Part Big Block Modifieds, Blue Hen Disposal 602 Modifieds, Delaware Super Truck, Little Lincoln Stock Cars, and Delmarva Chargers. In preparation for the event, teams will have the opportunity to participate in open practice for all classes on Friday, April 18. Gates will open at 5pm, followed by open practice from 6pm to 9pm.
As previously stated, the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series will visit our historic half-mile oval on April 19 and September 20. Also, USAC sprints will make their sole appearance on Saturday, May 3. Lastly, the United Racing Club Sprint series, a fan favorite for many years, will visit on Saturday, August 16.
This year, we are reviving a couple of popular events from the past, including Twin 20’s for our Modifieds and 602 Modifieds, as well as the "Slide for 5." June 7 marks the return of the Twin 20’s for the Millman Big Block Modifieds. The Blue Hen Disposal 602 Modifieds will also feature Twin 20’s September 6. Fans may recall the introduction of the Slide for 5 several years ago. For those who do not, following the event on July 19, the track crew will completely saturate the racing surface. Fans are invited to bring their older vehicles, adhering to minimal safety regulations and utilizing bald tires, participants will have five laps to navigate the half-mile track, with the winner being the first to complete five laps, receiving a $100 prize.
The SDM Promotions team continues to work with neighboring tracks, Georgetown Speedway and Middleford Speedway this winter. Race teams continue to monitor this website and our Facebook page as we will be updating rules, payouts and procedures.
Our goal is to help preserve Delaware racing for generations to come! We look forward to seeing our racing family back at DIS in 2025!
